Annual Salmon Return Celebration Success by Robert and Dale

Good news! The salmon are here again and FORB held its annual celebration to welcome them back to the American River. Those parents, children, grandparents, neighbors and other folks that attended enjoyed a beautiful fall Saturday on the river bank learning about salmon and canoeing to viewing wildlife, remove invasive plants and more. Great cookies and refreshments with much lively conversation and memories filled out the morning. The salmon are back and all the way up river to the hatchery in Folsom. We didn't see a sea lion this time but they will be spotted before long. River otters, egrets, cormorants, turtles, geese, coyote tracks, deer, woodpeckers and much more are being regularly seen at Sutter's Landing Park and beyond in the lower American River Parkway.

Thank you Laura Drath from the California Dept. Fish and Wildlife fish hatchery education program and co-presenter son Theo, for being the most consistent, educational presenter we’ve had over all the years at our annual “Welcome Back the Salmon” event. You make it happen!

Thanks Tom Biglione from Rivers of Change for sharing your lifelong love, knowledge, passion and care for our rivers. Thanks also to you and your team for your efforts to eradicate the invasive “red Sesbania”plants along the river.

Thanks Betsy Weiland from Save the American River Association (SARA) for bringing the drinks and goodies, and especially for your classic “Fish Hats,” Robert still wears his five year old model.

Thanks to every one named here for your help and support for making this annual event happen each year and for welcoming the Chinook back as they pass by Sutters Landing Park.

The badly exposed bird in flight photo below is of an Osprey flying down river, hight above the tree tops over the North bank with a sizable catch! Wonder where it was off to?
