Today was a special Second Saturday event for FORB. We worked with the city to allow access for a group to walk up on the normally locked up landfill mound that is a prominent part of Sutter's Landing Park. A large group of over 50 people including city councilman Cohn, landfill manager and staff and a number of families and individuals made the short climb up to the tallest spot in the city. The hazy skies didn't allow for the sometimes spectacular views of sierra and coast range mountains but it was still a treat and we learned more about the operation of the facility now at the half way point of a 30 year closure plan. We saw several raptors, had great views of the river and surrounding city and discussed recent events and collaboration between city staff and various neighborhood groups including FORB to make for a better future for this area and the overall Sutter's Landing Park. Here's a link to more photos taken by Steve Harriman, city Integrated Waste General Manager and very good photographer.
